HOW OUR FOOD REFLECTS US

Published on 1 April 2025 at 20:25

How we are reflected in our food’s behaviours upon exposure to industrial (colonial) practices.

Industrially grown corn is made to be harvested fast, therefore its root systems do not go as deep (Pollan, 2008).

How do you relate to the quality of the roots that hold you to your ability source nourishment, or to your depth of connection to land?

Shallow root systems and depleted soils (which are a product of industrial agriculture) leave corn highly sensitive and susceptible to disease that would have otherwise been prevented (Pollan, 2008).

Where are the diseases of colonialism entering our bodies and lives? Why is our risk amplified? (Marya & Patel, 2021).

Talented scientists are busy devising what chemical compositions we can spray on crops to avoid a symptom that would otherwise be solved if nature was left to connect and thrive in its responsive ecosystem (Pollan, 2008).

Where are we responding to simple problems with increasingly complex solutions to preserve the industrial-colonial system?
